Crafters Curse - losing the muse.

I, like many crafters, am guilty of starting projects and then leaving them when the muse walks out the door or when something much more interesting/urgent/appealing turns up.

Once left these projects fester annoyingly at the back of the mind demanding attention, urging you to finish them. But you press them away and they get heavier as time goes by. Even more so when you relocate and they trudge along with you, sadly packed away, unwanted and unloved.

At the moment I have at least 6 such projects :(
So I thought I would give a couple of them some fresh air and let them be seen.

These 2 canvases are related. They were started at the same time while I was working on an exhibition.

I think they both need to tell a story, but somehow I seem to have lost the plot :)

They both need a focal point. The first one maybe butterflies, perhaps as 3D elements

The second I just don't know. The moon needs it's face but the rest I am not sure.

I think I shall print them out and use as backgrounds for scrapbooking and cards and see if that will give me any more inspiration.

What are your thoughts? Do either of these speak to you?

  1. I just love the one with water. I can see a small empty wooden boat in the shadows.

  2. I think with simple shadows of boats, or owls you can jazz up the two canvases and make it look more "complete".

    1. Thanks Dominique. When I started the second canvas, I was thinking of an owls eye view :)

  3. Maybe just give them some time. I like the one with the moon. It would be a wonderful background with an inspirational quote. I would not put a face on the moon.

The other one just looks unfinished, unfocused as you say. It looks like it needs some fairies, maybe a mermaid or a water sprite.

    1. I hadn't considered adding words, but I think that is a fabulous idea and something I can try digitally beforehand :)

  4. Janice, I've just logged on the following morning after the night of being unable to enter day 24's chain. I love the mood in the first painting. It speaks to me of unfulfilled or lost love af a dearly remembered partner. It would be wonderful as a background of a few meaningful words for a card. Something like: 'Your love drifts in the mists of tomorrow'. The seond picture speaks of cold, of love departed. Ever thought of designing cards. All the best. http://475035832790540880.weebly.com/blog.html

  5. Hi Jan,
Fascinating to see these at their current stage - I'll love to see how they look at the *next* stage!
    Cheers,

    1. Thank you Gordon, I've never shown incomplete works to any but immediate family before, but it has given me new impetus to get them finished - and some great ideas too :)
